PURPOSE
The Disability Services Coordinator will review and assess student applications for academic and/or housing accommodations conduct intake meetings and provide ongoing case management to students with disabilities including direct assistance referrals and assistive technology support.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Accommodation Review
Percent Effort: 50%
Review disability related accommodation applications.
Conduct interviews with students and determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
Consult with Assistant Director Director on course of action.
Use the AIM system to process student information manage accommodations and document student case notes.
Maintain training on industry standards including both Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Fair Housing Act guidelines.
Problem solve challenging situations with students faculty and staff.
Functional Area 2: Assistive Technology
Percent Effort:10%
With guidance from department leadership collaborate with students to assess their assistive technology needs and provide appropriate recommendations and training to support their academic success.
Provide alternative formats of textbooks and class materials to students. This includes acquiring permissions from publishers acquiring the text or audio through ordering or scanning and converting them to the proper format for the students technology.
Serve as a resource and provide support to campus and exam services for creating accessible documents and utilizing assistive technology devices and software.
Functional Area 3: Housing
Percent Effort: 30%
Review Housing Accommodation applications and documentation.
Communicate with Student and Housing staff regarding requested accommodations.
Administrate the Housing Modification module within the AIM system.
Assist in writing policy regarding housing accommodations.
Address concerns and otherwise provide excellent customer service to students faculty and staff.
Functional Area 4: Programming Outreach University Support
Percent Effort: 10%
Job Duties
Participate in various outreach events and activities across campus.
Participate in program design and program implementation.
Provide consultation and training to campus and community constituents. Serve as a source on the needs and rights of students with disabilities.
Support the University through volunteering committee work and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in education psychology special education health and human services.
One (1) year of related experience.
Additional experience may be considered as a substitution for the minimum education requirements. Associate degree in education psychology special education social work health and human services or a related clinical area and three (3) years of related experience.
Working knowledge and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended and other applicable federal and state laws.
Ability to interpret standard psychological assessments and diagnostic methods for use in determining accommodations.
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree.
University experience preferred.
Experience determining and coordinating accommodations and related services for individuals with disabilities within a post-secondary environment.
Experience working with students with disabilities and knowledge of assistive technology solutions is preferred.
Familiarity with a wide range of disabilities documentation and appropriate accommodations.
SALARY $43888 Annually Approximately
$3657.34 Monthly
