*In the descending order of preference the successful candidate will be based out of Portland Augusta or Bangor DEP office and given the opportunity to telework consistent with DEP policy.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This entry level professional services position is responsible for assisting day-to-day activities of the stormwater engineering team in the Bureau of Land Resources (BLR). The team is primarily responsible for the implementation of the DEPs Stormwater Management Rules (Chapter 500) and reviewing land development projects requiring DEP permits. As an Assistant Environmental Engineer you will evaluate proposed stormwater management plans and systems assess their compliance with regulatory standards and contribute to the oversight of existing stormwater infrastructure across the state. This position involves close collaboration with applicants permit holders company representatives and internal staff to ensure successful and consistent application of Chapter 500 rules.

BLR will provide professional society memberships and other professional development opportunities for the position. This position will be overseen by the environmental engineers of the team as required and supervised by the team leader a senior environmental engineer.

Other job duties include:

  • Conducting project reviews in a timely fashion
  • Evaluating stormwater problems and communicating solutions to DEP staff contractors and landowners
  • Assisting with the training activities and workshops
  • Participating in the pre-application pre-submission meetings for the land development projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors degree in Environmental Civil Sanitary Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related Engineering field. Related experience may be substituted for education.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: For non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates: Certification of Engineer Intern as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
