The City of Bellevue is seeking a passionate and experienced recreation professional to coordinate and supervise programs events and services at North Bellevue Community Center (NBCC). Operated by the City of Bellevue NBCC is a vibrant inclusive hub that fosters connection creativity and well-being for people of all ages with a special emphasis on serving older adults. The center offers a variety of programs that support social engagement health and wellness the arts and culturally relevant and intergenerational activities.

In this role the Program Coordinator will lead the development and delivery of meaningful and accessible recreation opportunities that reflect the diversity of Bellevues community. The position requires strong skills in community engagement program planning and customer service as well as proficiency in administrative tasks and computer systems. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented culturally responsive and able to engage with patrons of all ages and backgrounds. Experience working with older adults in a community setting is highly valued. To effectively support these roles thisis an in-person on-site position and virtual/remote work is not available.

This position also supports department-wide initiatives within Bellevue Parks & Community Services and serves as a liaison to the North Bellevue Community Center Advisory Board a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required in order to meet the needs of the community and support special events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops plans promotes implements and reviews a wide range of community programs and events.
  • Conducts research to stay current on recreation program development and management.
  • Assists with the development recommendation and implementation of goals objectives policies procedures and work standards for the assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Recruits develops contracts trains supervise and evaluates staff volunteers and contracted instructors involved in programs.
  • Develops and monitors program budgets and tracks revenue and expenditures; writes and monitors grants funding requests and miscellaneous proposals.
  • Develops public relations marketing strategies presentations and promotional materials.
  • Drafts memos briefs contracts and other correspondence as needed.
  • Interacts and collaborates with other recreation and service providers sponsors and City personnel on projects and programs.
  • Performs office duties including answering the phone registering participants copying completing forms and providing customer service as needed.
  • Performs as on-site North Bellevue Community Center staff coverage for daytime evening and occasional weekend hours.
  • Performs light custodial duties including room set-up/break-down cleaning equipment vacuuming sweeping and other similar type duties as needed to maintain the center during operating hours.
  • Drives 15 passenger van and monitors vehicle usage.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • Works under the general supervision of the North Bellevue Community Services Supervisor.
  • Exercises supervision part time employees volunteers and in the absence of the Community Services Supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in the social sciences business recreation or related field(s).
  • Four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in human/social services programming recreation activities or a related area.
  • Any equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • First Aid and CPR Occupational Blood Born Pathogens and Defensive Driving certification preferred required if hired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public sector organization and program operations; knowledge of project management including planning scheduling monitoring and problem solving; knowledge of the methods and procedures of budget development and control; knowledge of City regulations relevant to the program area as well as departmental policies and procedures.
  • Experience in recreation program development and implementation.
  • Experience in writing and managing contracts.
  • Ability to relate and work with a broad and varied population skill in conflict resolution de-escalation and customer service.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of English usage spelling grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to supervise the work of staff including coordinating assigning monitoring and evaluating work hiring training motivating and disciplining staff.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare budgets set program fees develop schedules reports policy and procedures manuals and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of databases spreadsheets registration and scheduling programs utilized by the City.
  • Knowledge of applicable information technology relative to service area.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with department recreation staff and partnership organizations.
  • Knowledge of recreation site management including operations and maintenance.
