Job Description

Aquatics Center Pool Operator

Warren H. Daugherty Aquatic Center

35-40 Hours per week / 12 months

JOB SUMMARY

Maintains cleans and repairs equipment related to everyday operations of the swimming pool. Performs grounds and custodial functions. Assists Pool Supervisor with other facility operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Performs daily pool and equipment maintenance.
  2. Responsible for cleanliness operation and maintenance of pool systems and Center.
  3. Maintains water quality above State standards and is able to address water chemical issues.
  4. Maintains flow rates and chemical water balance as required by Oregon Health Authority Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) City and County codes.
  5. Monitors handles and installs all chemicals for swimming pools.
  6. Keeps and maintains a water testing log.
  7. Maintains a vacuuming schedule and vacuums both pools.
  8. Maintains a safe and clean pool deck.
  9. Maintains a deck washing schedule.
  10. Maintains an organized and functional pump room environment.
  11. Works with Pool Supervisor to improve facility procedures and standards.
  12. Develops schedules tracks and performs preventative corrective and major maintenance repair and inspections of pools equipment and building to ensure safety and preservation of assets including all filters UV systems chlorinators and PH controller.
  13. Monitors inventory levels and ensures proper handling storage and disposal of chemicals and other pool maintenance supplies.
  14. Works with skilled plumbers painters carpenters electricians or other tradesmen and grounds employees where some knowledge of the basic operations and methods involved is necessary.
  15. Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory of chemicals parts and supplies as needed.
  16. Maintains computerized and hard copy operating records of daily inspections water quality filtration service water changes etc. in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  17. Responsible for grounds maintenance and landscaping.
  18. Responsible for general custodial duties.
  19. Obtains and maintains an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification
  20. Maintains a Certified Pool Operators License (CPO) and the ability to acquire and maintain future certifications as determined appropriate.
  21. Conducts project coordination for capital improvements and other special projects for the facility.
  22. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
  23. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  24. Assists with program planning of activities and projects.
  25. Attends work regularly and is punctual.
  26. Weekends and evenings as needed.
  27. Follows and maintains knowledge of applicable District policies and procedures.
  28. Perform other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Performs minor first aid in compliance with District policies and completes required paperwork in a timely fashion.
  2. Attends in-service trainings.
  3. Attends staff meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent (72 quarter hours) from a college or technical school or must be able to pass the districts assessment demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in reading writing and math. Prior successful experience working with and/or maintain machinery or mechanicals systems preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:

Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; expressing emotions in a professional manner; remaining open to others ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with students.

Language Skills:

Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one small group situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.

Computer Skills:

General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail and internet. Experience with database software spreadsheets and word processing software. Is preferred.

Other Skills and Ability:

Ability to appropriately communicate with students teachers administrators and parents. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. Certificates Licenses Registrations:

Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card Certified Pool Operators License and Aquatic Facilitator Operator Certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
