Job Description

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an LVT to join the research team at the Biobank. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the daily recruitment collection accessioning and handling of biological specimens. This role involves sensitive client communication on sample donation informed consent and euthanasia requiring clarity empathy and cultural competence. The position requires emotional intelligence resilience and adaptability in a diverse and dynamic academic environment contributing significantly to research and diagnostic objectives. The CVB is an ISO 20387 accredited resource providing biological material and associated data to the research community worldwide.

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA-accredited institution or its equivalence approved by the NY state department of education with NYS licensure or eligibility to be licensed
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in collecting and/or processing biological samples and using software for associated record keeping (such as an EMR) in a hospital or research setting.
  • Valid drivers license and personal vehicle for sample transportation.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students faculty staff and community members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in animal handling and phlebotomy collecting and/or processing biological samples and associated data.
  • Experience in a biobank or similar research environment with an understanding of the specific demands of such settings.
  • Proficiency in handling or working with centrifuges liquid nitrogen -80C freezers blood and tissue samples including postmortem samples.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite specifically Excel and Word
  • Previous experience with adherence to a quality management system to ensure sample integrity and compliance.
  • Familiarity and compliance with standard operating procedures for quality and biobank processes based on ISO 20387:2018.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • This is a part-time one-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business requiring employees to work early mornings evenings weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
