Job Summary:
A qualified and experienced Health Protection Officer is required to conduct statutory food hygiene inspections and hazard spotting in relation to health and safety across local food businesses.
This is a field-based part-time temporary position suited to individuals with recent experience in official controls and a specialist in food safety enforcement.
The role supports local public health protection through effective inspection compliance monitoring and risk mitigation in accordance with current legislation and guidance.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Undertake statutory food hygiene inspections of Category A to D premises in line with current legislation codes of practice and service protocols.
Identify and report health and safety hazards in accordance with national/local intervention plans.
Exercise professional judgement in applying legal and technical knowledge to secure compliance through informal and formal action where required.
Prepare clear and accurate inspection records reports and case notes maintaining robust and retrievable documentation for audit or enforcement.
Work independently in the field managing own caseload to meet performance targets and inspection schedules.
Conduct inspections flexibly including outside normal working hours when required.
Skills/Experience:
Demonstrable understanding of the Food Law Code of Practice Competency Framework and capability to carry out official controls (inspections audits sampling surveillance monitoring).
Proven recent experience (within the last 3 years) of delivering a range of food safety official controls as defined in the Food Law Code of Practice.
Experience in delivering health and safety interventions as detailed in LAC 67/2.
Post-qualification specialism in food safety and/or health & safety enforcement.
Experience working within local government or a regulatory environment.
Strong analytical decision-making and workload management skills.
Additional Information:
Full-time role: 40 Hr/week.
