Provide leadership for the development and implementation of a comprehensive Information Security strategy for the University of Akron. Manage a team of information security staff and work with members of Information Technology and the University community to increase the security reliability and resiliency of University Information Systems. Develop and implement appropriate policies procedures standards and guidelines to ensure the security of The University of Akrons information security and information technology environments. Participate as a member of the Information Technology Security Planning Committee to provide strategic technical and administrative recommendations for Information Security.
Essential Functions:
(20%) Develop and administer a University-wide IT Security Strategic Plan and Program. Work with academic and administrative units to develop priorities and requirements for Information Security.
(20%) Work with the University community to develop and maintain information security and privacy policies. Provide strategic technical guidance for development of Information Technology operating standards procedures and guidelines.
(20%) Collaborate with other government higher education and private sector security entities on security-related initiatives. Oversee incident response planning and security breach investigations. Serve as primary information security incident handler for major incidents. Develop maintain and implement standardized incident handling procedures. Perform regular exercises to test and refine incident handling procedures.
(20%) Responsible for development and testing of University Information Technology disaster recovery plan. Perform regular exercises to test and refine disaster recovery plan.
(10%) Coordinate security monitoring and log collection and inspection for Information Technology resources. Work with Information Technology departments and the University community to foster a culture of shared security responsibility.
(10%) Supervise development of security awareness and training programs. Work with Information Technology departments to make recommendations for focused security training for staff.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Requires a relevant Bachelors Degree.
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
A combination of education experience and training must qualify as an information security expert. Current security certification such as CISSP CISA or GIAC required.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 8 years of information technology experience including 5 years of enterprise-wide experience in the information security field. Experience with Higher Education Information Security familiarity with national security standards; experience with business continuity disaster recovery auditing risk management vulnerability assessments contract/vendor negotiations cyber-security and incident management required. Requires proven ability to serve as an effective member of a senior IT management team; Experience with PCI FERPA and HIPAA required.
