Job Description

Quality laboratory services

  • Perform phlebotomy procedure for clients who need blood investigation.
  • Perform routine lab activities such as HIV CD4 TB HBV HCV Syphilis RPR etc.
  • Conduct basic microscopy diagnosis and other common laboratory examinations/tests for diagnosis of STIs and Tuberculosis.
  • Ensure sample collection reception storage and registration of specimens are in a systematic manner.
  • Perform HIV viral load by real time PCR at Lan Pya Kyel viral load laboratory according to SOPs and Guidelines to provide quality laboratory services to the clients.
  • Carry out operation and maintenance of GeneXpert Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine especially for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) testing.
  • Provide laboratory investigation results to relevant staff in a timely manner.
  • Efficiently coordinate with other clinic staff to ensure optimal laboratory and clinical services (e.g. to ensure quality of swab/smear samples etc.).
  • Prepare and deliver the (qualified) specimens to the external laboratory (either national or outsourced laboratory).
  • Ensure quality check of testing through Internal Quality Control (IQC) EQAS and other possible means when necessary.

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Fill the complete laboratory data accurately in the LIMS system.
  • Collect and report the laboratory data as requested on a timely manner.
  • Maintain records of the laboratory tests and results in proper order.
  • Contribute to checking the laboratory data accuracy along with relevant monitoring technical and management staff.
  • Keep the LMIS data safe by preventing external malware and viruses by keeping the anti-virus software updated.
  • Report laboratory data/analysis to supervisor.
  • Inform the supervisor of challenges of laboratory operation if identified.

Infection Control Waste Management and Universal hygiene precaution

  • Apply universal precautions and infection control measures for all laboratory procedures as per Lan Pya Kyel protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the laboratory.
  • Ensure proper waste and used sharp disposal practice according to Lan Pya Kyel Waste Management SOP and highest safety standards.
  • Apply hygiene and safety protocols including but not limited to the usage of autoclave machine daily cleaning/maintenance sterilization washing general glassware after procedures etc.
  • Participate in clinic infection control and waste management activities.

Management of laboratory devices

  • Ensure the appropriate use/care of laboratory equipment and consumables.
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used by following the user manual and protocols and inform line/technical managers in case of malfunctioning.

Stock Management

  • Carry out laboratory commodity stock management including but not limited to preparation of stock report forecasting and recording the consumption timely and correctly.
  • Follow up the laboratory consumption and give input to the supervisor for the next forecast accordingly.
  • Keep the laboratory consumable/equipment inventory updated.

Other

  • Participate in relevant team meetings/trainings and provide inputs relevant to laboratory topics.
  • Promote a friendly non-judgmental and professional clinical environment and respect the rights and the confidentiality of clients.
  • Accompany outreach activity if required.

Qualifications :

  • Must be holder of university degree ( or or DPMS).
  • At least grade II certificate in medical laboratory.
  • Must have experience with molecular laboratory such as Gene Xpert and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine.
  • Must have experience with laboratory procedures such as testing for HIV TB and OI.
  • Experience in microbiology for STIs is an asset.
  • Experience working with beneficiary population (Female Sex Worker Men who have sex with Men Transgender Women) is an advantage.
  • Able to work in a multicultural context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skill.
  • Flexible and empathetic attitude.
  • Basic English skills (Speaking and Writing).
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) and knowledge in using data-based software.
