**This position is a hybrid position with two (2) days of teleworking**


The Operations Unit of the NC State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH) is currently accepting applications for a Purchasing Specialist. The Operations Unit provides logistical and facility support of the NC SLPH as well as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). This position obtains and compares pricing and quotes through NC e-Procurement NC State Term Contracts and confirms purchasing consistent with NC guidelines and policies.

In addition this position maintains organized electronic files of all purchases including those items that require documentation for appropriate tagging and inventory. This position will research availability obtain pricing/quotes and delivery schedule for the procurement of goods and services for the NC State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH). Provides information to the staff; contract/business owners in the development of purchase requisitions. Responsible for the review and processing of purchase requisitions for accuracy of information and ensuring procurement is processed by or through the correct means. Research Statewide Term Contracts Agency Term Contracts and obtain quotes.

This position also provides technical assistance to SLPH staff with regards to purchasing. The person in this position must maintain a working knowledge of current laws policies and procedures related to NC State procurement processes and procedures. This person must also have the ability to communicate the appropriate policies and procedures orally and in writing to system office staff contractors and vendors; the ability to analyze problems and make decisions based on the law and current policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Administrative Officer II.

At the State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH) we provide medical and environmental laboratory services such as testing consultation and training to public and private health provider organizations responsible for the promotion protection and assurance of the health of North Carolina citizens. SLPH serves the entire state as a reference laboratory for difficult unusual or otherwise unavailable laboratory procedures and assist in the development evaluation and standardization of medical and environmental laboratory testing procedures. We provide training and consultation to improve and assure quality services in other laboratories and certify milk and water laboratories and milk analysts. Management Preferences:
  • Knowledge of the NC E-Procurement System
  • Knowledge of NCFS (North Carolina Financial System)
