Job Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant is a high-level financial professional responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions including multi-level budgeting auditing procedures compliance with evolving federal and state regulations and strategic financial planning. This role ensures accurate financial reporting develops and implements fiscal policies maintains internal controls and enhances financial system efficiency. The position requires strict adherence to the State of Colorado Fiscal Rules Colorado Community College System regulations and other applicable guidelines. Serving as a key advisor to the Assistant Controller the Senior Staff Accountant provides financial analysis forecasting and strategic recommendations to optimize operational efficiency. The role also involves coordination with external agencies and auditors to ensure proper implementation of accounting regulations while leading initiatives related to fiscal innovation and system improvements. Additionally the position supports general accounting functions including the review and reconciliation of accounting data documentation of accounting processes and maintenance of internal controls with a primary focus on managing grants (federal state private and local) and reporting directly to the Assistant Controller.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field
  • Knowledge of Accounting Principles Generally Accepted in the United States of America (GAAP) federal grant compliance and government accounting standards.
  • Five years of professional accounting experience in government higher education or grant-based funding.
  • Experience in higher education finance grant management and compliance reporting.
  • Effective computer skills especially in the use of Excel spreadsheets with intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication analytical organizational and people skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving multitasking and time management.
