Job Summary:The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress courses University resources etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary:Provides comprehensive support to undergraduate students in the STEM/CREATE Path to the MBA focusing on academic advising degree planning and pre-admissions counseling. Serves as the primary advising contact for students supporting them from their freshman year through their transition to full-time MBA enrollment.
Serves as a liaison between the STEM/CREATE Path department and the Manderson Graduate School of Business working with students to develop and implement personalized academic plans. Works closely with other college advisors to confirm and maintain the accuracy of student degree plans. Provides support for other Manderson students especially as online degree and certificate populations grow.
Organizes and facilitates orientation and informational sessions ensuring that students and their families receive the necessary guidance and resources to support their transition and success.
Works after-hours on an occasional basis to accommodate advising sessions or special events as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR masters degree and some academic advising experience.
Skills and Knowledge:Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deliver effective presentations and clearly articulate academic policies procedures and program requirements to students faculty and staff. Organizational skills. Keen attention to detail. Proficiency in record-keeping and data management. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. In-depth knowledge of Excel DegreeWorks Banner etc. Experience developing and distributing informational materials to enhance academic advising and student support services. Strong understanding of student needs. Ability to provide appropriate recommendations and referrals. General knowledge of scholarship processes. Capacity to collaborate effectively with campus partners including faculty staff and administrative units. Possess a strong understanding of undergraduate and/or graduate academic programs degree requirements and university policies.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with course registration processes and managing student academic records. Experience working directly with STEM/CREATE Path to the MBA students or advising in a STEM-related field. Familiarity with admissions processes. Experience collaborating across multiple academic departments and student services units. Strong proficiency in student information systems (Banner DegreeWorks Slate etc.).
