Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

  • Part-time role 12 mth contract: up to two sessions per week presently Wed (0.186EFT)

Department
The Alfred Cancer program governs the delivery of comprehensive cancer care across Alfred Health providing clinical care for patients affected by cancer blood disorders and at the end of life. Alfred Cancer comprises service units providing clinical and research excellence in the fields of medical oncology radiation oncology haematology bone marrow transplant haemophilia melanoma and palliative care. The program provides quality clinical care for our local catchment and to all Victorians through our statewide melanoma haematology and haemophilia services.

The Victorian Melanoma Service (VMS) is one of Australias largest multidisciplinary treatment services for melanoma. It was established in 1994 to provide a comprehensive assessment for people with melanoma by providing them with one-stop shop access to all medical and other specialists involved in the treatment of melanoma.

The Melanoma Clinic at Alfred Health is conducted by the Victorian Melanoma Service which diagnoses treats and provides follow-up for people with melanoma. We provide wide-ranging information and advice about melanoma and the most appropriate way to treat it. Assessment is provided by specialists in dermatology pathology medical oncology radiation oncology general surgery plastic surgery nursing and psychology. The service participates in trials of new treatmentsand is available to patients who have been recently diagnosed with melanoma or who want second opinions about their care.


Position Summary
This role is that of a Registrar within the Victorian Melanoma Service unit located at Alfred Health or on rotation to other Health Services. This role has the key responsibility for co-ordinating the day to day work of the Unit and supervision of more junior medical staff and managing their duties. The placement is designed to provide appropriate exposure and experience to enable the doctor to attain the required skills and knowledge for that term in that position offers the opportunity to undertake a personal program of research in melanoma with the close supervision of the staff of the clinic. The position is suitable for applicants who are preparing themselves toapply for a specialty training program in a related clinical disciplineeg dermatology.


The VMS clinical registrar will be responsible for the following;

  • The clinical assessment of new and review patients attending the VMS. As a state based tertiary and quaternary referral facility these assessments need to be of the highest standard.
  • Presentation of patients to senior consultants prior to their assessment.
  • Presentation of patient assessments to the multidisciplinary melanoma panel meeting.
  • Arranging referrals and investigations as determined by the consultants and the panel meeting.
  • Facilitating and participating in clinical trials and research studies and liaising with the research nurse.
  • Ensuring accurate and complete data collection in the clinic.
  • Liaising with the data manager for the VMS on issues relating to clinical data collection.
  • The clinicalregistrars report toProf Victoria MarDirector - Victorian Melanoma Service.


Skills and Experience Required

  • MBBS MD or equivalent degree enabling registration with the Medical Board of Australia;
  • Successful completion of relevant post graduate years;
  • AHPRA medical registration without conditions undertakings or reprimands.
