Job Description
ROLE of the POSITION
This position works under the general direction of the Director for Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science and is responsible for assisting in the oversight and administration of eight federal TRIO secondary level programs five Upward Bound and three Upward Bound Math and Science Projects. The Assistant Director is responsible for coordinating college tours events and incentive activities; assisting with institutional and community collaboration efforts; managing multiple components of the Academic Year and Summer Bridge program; conducting short and long-term planning; assisting with directing program services; as well as coordinating all alumni relations functions. Additionally this position will assist with budget tracking reporting ensuring compliance with applicable federal state and university mandates and with Center-wide and project specific objectives. The Assistant Director will provide direct leadership by supervising training and evaluating full-time and part-time staff within these eight projects. The Assistant Director will serve as an advocate for all Center programs and a liaison with the host institution the Clark County School District as well as the local state and federal agencies community organizations and the general public. Moreover the Assistant Director is expected to be a major contributor in the research and writing of all grants supporting the vision and mission of The Center. This position is exempt from overtime.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 5 years of supervisory experience in a comparable position. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. Candidate must be able to drive and maintain a valid Nevada driver license. Candidate must be able to pass the federal background check/fingerprinting process through the Clark County School District (CCSD) and obtain a CCSD ID Badge. Candidate must be available to work on Saturday and during the 6-week summer residential program. Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship. Candidate must be able to meet deadlines and maintain regular communication with leadership; must have the ability to perform multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously work in a selfdirected environment as well as plan and organize on a daily and longterm basis. Candidate must also have direct experience working in a professional setting collaborating with organization personnel to manage projects resources and initiatives in order to meet organizational objectives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred. Direct experience with TRIO GEAR UP or similar grant-funded projects is preferred. Candidate should have a thorough knowledge of the Upward Bound program management applicable laws codes and regulations. Candidate should have the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students school district personnel (teachers and administrators) university staff and community agencies. Candidate should possess advanced knowledge of educational psychology and student development issues and working experience with underrepresented students. Candidate should possess command of the principles and techniques for making effective oral presentations; should be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills effective time management skills and good computer skills. Candidate should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to work with and counsel secondary students from traditionally underrepresented groups that are academically-at-risk low-income and ethnically diverse. Experience with setting up and maintaining online communication with students is also preferred.
