Summary:
The Principal Packaging Engineer leads the design optimization and implementation of packaging solutions across the product portfolio. This role drives innovation efficiency compliance and sustainability through close collaboration with multifunctional TEAms. As a key member of the corporate engineering TEAm partners across functions to deploy packaging solutions that enhance product quality and support overall business for managing and coordinating activities for the Shipping and Warehouse teams and implementing procedures to improve inventory management and storage outbound shipment efficiencies and adhering to safety and quality guidelines.
Responsibilities
Lead Packaging Design & Development: Oversee the creation of innovative packaging solutions that meet customer and consumer needs regulatory requirements and sustainability goals for the companys product portfolio.
Drive Productivity Improvements: Identify and implement process enhancements to reduce packaging costs minimize waste and improve production line efficiency.
Innovate Sustainable Solutions: Develop eco-friendly packaging alternatives incorporating recyclable biodegradable or reusable materials to align with corporate sustainability objectives.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with R&D marketing and supply chain TEAms to ensure packaging aligns with product requirements branding and logistical needs. Work with external industry partners to deliver breakthrough solutions.
Optimize Packaging Systems: Conduct performance evaluations and testing to ensure packaging durability safety and compliance with food safety regulations (e.g. FDA USDA).
Manage Projects: Lead end-to-end packaging projects from concept to commercialization ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
Stay Ahead of Industry Trends: Research and integrate emerging technologies materials and packaging trends to maintain a competitive edge in the market.
Mentor Junior Engineers: Provide technical guidance and mentorship fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety and packaging regulations to ensure all solutions meet global standards.
Analyze Supply Chain Impact: Evaluate packaging designs for compatibility with transportation storage and distribution processes to minimize costs and environmental impact.
Reinforce Safety Culture: Follow safety policy and procedures including but not limited to lock out-tag-out hot work permit and confined space.
Corporate Responsibility: Upholds demonstrates leadership in all Corporate Responsibility programming including recycling social advocacy and MMAD volunteering opportunities.
Food Safety: This position has food Safety Responsibilities.
Other responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering with 10 years experience in packaging engineering.
Experience with Microsoft Office software.
Experience bringing new products to market.
Capable of working both independently and as part of a larger group.
