    JOB SUMMARY:
    To provide as a member of the counseling department staff a comprehensive counseling program for all students and specifically provide services to meet the needs of assigned students; consult with teachers staff and parents to enhance effectiveness in helping students; and to provide support to other educational programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Masters degree in School Guidance and Counseling
    2. A valid Maryland Educator Certificate with School Counselor as an endorsement
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.
    2. Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.
    3. Works to resolve students educational handicaps.
    4. Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning.
    5. Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth self-understanding and maturity.
    6. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations health and emotional adjustment.
    7. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities
    8. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
    9. Advises and counsels students regarding academic educational and short-term social and emotional problems.
    10. Confers with parents whenever necessary.
    11. Assists in the orientation of new faculty members.
    12. Remains universally accessible and makes an effort to now every student for whom they are responsible.
    13. Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student services department and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.
    14. Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline.
    15. Takes an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students parents and the community at large.
    16. Interprets the guidance program to the community.
    17. Organizes and conducts annual Career Day.
    18. Arranges for tutors and summer school work.
    19. Performs other duties as assigned
    20. Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
    21. Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational social and important school information and offers workshops/seminars for parents.
    22. Consults facilitates and maintains communication with parents teachers administrators and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
    23. Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual students academic and educational needs and abilities.
    24. Participates on a Student Success Team identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.
    25. Assists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
    26. Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
    27. Communicates coordinates and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
    28. Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

    SALARY: Queen Annes County Ten (10) Month Salary Schedule

    EFFECTIVE: 2025/2026 School Year
