Job Description

Principal Associate Card Association Management

As a Risk Management Principal Associate in Card Association Management (CAM) you will be responsible for working with the payment networks (e.g. Visa MC etc.) and our internal partners to identify assess and mitigate risks to Capital One across the enterprise. You will enhance the risk infrastructure by supporting required L2 functions/controls/documentation. In addition areas of ownership will include risk event management and process management along with general guidance related to compliance with payment network operating rules and regulations.

Principal Associates at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent analytical organizational and communication skills. These skills allow the Risk Manager to gain insights and act as a change agent to influence business partners. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever changing technology landscape so do our Risk Managers. A successful Risk Manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about the ever-evolving payment network requirements and will quickly recognize the impact of rules changes and new technology/functionality to Capital One and generate awareness across the enterprise.

They will have a high level of exposure across lines of business while partnering and influencing executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within the Card business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Become a subject matter expert in payment network operating rules and regulations

  • Support the Card Association Management (CAM) team through audits (internal external and network-driven)

  • Build relationships with various teams including risk across the enterprise to ensure effective introduction of and compliance with payment network rules

  • Manage exception processes with the payment networks including negotiating documenting and renewing exceptions across the enterprise

  • Engage with teams tasked with payments/branding innovation to provide guidance to ensure compliance with network requirements

  • Assess new NPMIG initiatives for impact to CAM/payment networks

  • Consult on new product marketing plans and legal playbook creation to ensure compliance with network guidelines

  • Develop and manage a repository of L2 process artifacts

  • Track and resolve process breakdowns

  • Develop and maintain formal process documentation including procedures and process flow diagrams

  • Act as a subject matter expert to effectively partner with project customers to achieve desired outcome or improvement by clarifying needs and providing appropriate solutions

  • Contribute to or create Playbooks in various LOBs to document high level requirements

  • Complete necessary documentation as needed for payment networks such as third party registration exceptions etc.

  • Manage information security cyber technology Third Party Data Share and other risks related to the payment networks as they arise

  • Support partner and influence internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure visibility and transparency to internal and external stakeholders on the health of operations including identification of critical needs/dependencies and risks

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • At least 2 years of Operations Financial Services Compliance or Risk Management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting partnering and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 3 years Process Management or Project Management Experience

  • 3 years of Operations Financial Services Compliance or Risk Management experience

  • 2 years of risk methodologies and corporate risk practices experience

  • PMP Lean Agile or Six Sigma certification

This role is hybrid where you will be expected to spend 3 days per week working in office.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Richmond VA: $106700 - $121700 for Principal Risk Specialist











Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
