Our dosimetry team works in close collaboration with our physicians physicists therapists and each other to maximize our patients outcomes and experience. Team members have access to and are invited to participate in a variety of projects with members of the physician physics and therapy groups to take an active role in the development of the department.

Prinicipal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists radiation oncologist during simulation to acquire all information to develop the optimum treatment plan.
- Performs dosimetric calculations for patients under therapy treatments utilizing manual and/or sophisticated computer equipment and advanced technology techniques for: external 2D and 3D photon and electron beams complex IMRT and VMAT techniques and interstitial and intracavitary implants.
- Import contour and perform fusions including deformable registrations of various image data sets including treatment planning CTs diagnostic CTs PET MRI and 4D CTs.
- Provide contours of organs at risk and related structures related to the scope of practice as defined by the department
- Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets (fusion and registration contouring/segmentation contour/dose deformation).
- Assists in planning of treatment by preparing custom blocks compensation filters immobilization devices and merging of radiation fields.
- Assures proper implementation of treatment plan during initial patient setup for treatment.
- Assists in monitoring operation of radiation therapy equipment and performing minor calibrations and checks.
- Assists physicist in quality assurance on the treatment planning computer(s) equipment software and system acceptance testing maintenance and commissioning.
- Assists physicist in the preparation and care of radioactive sources and applicators for interstitial and intracavitary procedures.
- Performs radiation survey and implements radiation protection guidelines in reference to implant procedures.
- Prepares weekly review and final summary of patient treatment records to verify that all entries and functions conform to the prescription ordered by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Performs assigned work safely adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
- Reports to Chief Dosimetrist Chief Clinical Physicist Attending Radiation Oncologist and Chief Therapist in a timely manner any unsafe activities conditions hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself other employees patients and visitors.
- Selects appropriate billing codes for all dosimetry services provided by the department to the patient.
- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients including knowledge of growth and development the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed.
- Proficiency in SBRT planning including but not limited to SBRT on linear accelerators SBRT on Cyberknife and any future technologies
- Proficiency in adaptive planning for 3D VMAT SBRT and any future technologies
- Teaches applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students radiation therapists and residents.
- Teaches assists and counsels applied aspects of medical dosimetry to Dosimetrist I.
- Participates in continuing education quality improvement processes and clinical research.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelors Degree. Medical Dosimetrist certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board.
- Five years working experience as a staff dosimetrist
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
