Job Description
Department: Shipping
Reports To: Shipping Supervisor
Job Purpose:
This position is primarily responsible for executing and supporting all functions of the shipping department including administrative and physical job responsibilities as required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load trucks by hand and/or using a stand up electric forklift or pallet jack
- Operate warehouse equipment and machinery
- Stack and load product according to scheduled deliveries
- Load product in a safe manner to avoid damages and maintain load stability to ensure driver safety
- Use proper safety equipment and follow safety rules and procedures
- Inspect shipments for visible damage/quality issues
- Complete paperwork as required and review documentation for accuracy including the load manifest and packing lists
- Pull labels and place them accordingly on the load manifest verifying the correct order number product description and sequence
- Maintain Shipping dock in a clean and orderly manner
- Assist with local deliveries as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Possession of a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.); six months to one year experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of basic computer skills
- Good oral and written communication skills required
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be able to work well with others and maintain a professional attitude
- Must be able to handle multi-task and organize work
- Must show courtesy to co-workers customers and all others with whom contact occurs
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while also being an active member of a larger team
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced dynamic work environment and willingness to assume new responsibilities
- This position must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. frequently lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
- Prior experience operating forklifts and/or similar equipment preferred
- Prior shipping experience in a warehouse/manufacturing environment preferred
