Overview

Registrars are a critical resource in the revenue cycle. The information gathered by a registrar constitutes 50% of the claim information submitted to a third-party payer for reimbursement. The completeness and accuracy of their work has a direct impact on the hospitals cash flow and the patients customer experience related to a hassle-free billing process. Registrars register patients for inpatient and outpatient services throughout the hospital. The process includes gathering information from patients validating received information with insurance carriers determining benefits estimating out of pocket costs for the patient andcompleting forms with the patient in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Three year customer service experience preferred. Previous clerical medical terminology medical office registration or billing experience preferred.

Word processing/computer application experience and knowledge desired.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum typing skill of 40 WPM preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Registration Essential Functions
  • Obtain all information for pre-registration of patient
    • Patient Demographic information
    • Patient Payor cards
    • Patient Order
    • Patient Central Scheduling form
  • Verify all information with patient/representative 1-2 days prior to date of service
    • Identify self and department
    • Demographic information
    • Payor information
    • Test performing
    • Physicians to receive reports
    • Test prep (as needed)
    • Explain check-in process on date of service including need for payor cards to scan
  • Verify patient and payor eligibility on current eligibility system
  • Provide follow-up phone calls with patients (as needed)
  • Indicate patients need to register through Outpatient registration
  • Pre-Registration of Add-On patients
  • Assist with all types of walk-in patients (as needed)
  • Collaborate with Pre-Reg team to improve customer service experience through pre-registration
  • Other duties as assigned
