The Department of Agriculture Conservation and Forestry is recruiting to fill the position of Forester II in Farmington Maine.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Forester II is primarily responsible for the marketing and sale of timber from the Bureau of Parks Eastern and Western Region Public Reserved Lands. Working with Regional Managers a dozen foresters contractors and mills timber sales are planned sold and harvested in close coordination. More than 500000 acres of forest supply 50000-100000 cords of wood for sale each year depending on markets.
This is professional services and scientific work involving the implementation of a statewide forestry program or managing components of multiple-use land resource management. Work includes land use and environmental planning on state public lands timber sale market development technology evaluation and state forester training. This classification is distinguished from the Forester I level in that the Forester II is responsible for decision making in the method of contracting for the harvesting of wood the sale of forest products and assisting the Regional Manager with contracting for timber harvest and road contracts. Supervision may be exercised over lower-level Foresters crews and/or clerical/technical personnel. Work is performed with the expectation of teamwork but under limited supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Forestry or related field and four (4) years field experience involving inspection and supervision of harvesting operations surveying cruising timber making and general forest management planning. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Licensed as a Registered Professional Forester from the Maine State Board of Registration for Professional Foresters.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience marketing forest products.
