YSS is looking for a dedicated compassionate and genuine part-time Prevention Specialist to join our Community Youth & Family Development Team! The person in this role will promote implement and maintain evidence-based prevention programming for youth and/or adults in Story County.
The primary focus of this role will be Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (APP). The APP Specialist will promote implement and maintain evidence-based prevention programming for youth and/or adults in Story and adjacent Counties. The Specialist will work in collaboration with prevention staff local community coalitions and schools in implementing and promoting prevention programs with a focus on APP programs. The Specialist will assist in the promotion of assigned prevention and youth development efforts for youth and community members of the assigned counties.
Serving as a role model the Prevention Specialist will work to establish youth led initiatives assist established youth development groups and work on environmental strategies related to the goals of their position. The Prevention Specialist will also contact and recruit local community businesses or agencies to employ at-risk youth placing youth in jobs aligned with their interests/talents. Other responsibilities include:
- Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Efforts: Prepping delivering and reporting on APPPrevention Programs including:
- delivery of science-based APP curricula
- community consultation on APP topicssuch as reproductive health healthy relationships etc.
- participation in coalitions and
- other APP education delivery.
- Other Prevention Efforts as needed: Prepping delivering and reporting other Prevention Programs including
- the delivery of science-based substance use curricula
- youth development
- youth employment
- community consultation on substance use
- participation in coalitions and
- other prevention education delivery.
- Summer Enrichment Efforts:
- maintaining responsibility for theday-to-day operation of the Summer Enrichment Program
- planning scheduling and facilitating for an assigned group of students in Summer Enrichment services as needed
- contactingand recruitingcommunity businesses or agencies to employ at-risk youth and
- placing youth in jobs aligned with their interests/talents.
