Job Description

Thank you for your interest in employment with Southeastern Louisiana University.

Southeastern Louisiana Universitys Department of Music and Performing Arts invites applications for the full-time position of Instructor of Percussion and Athletic Bands. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire students in both the percussion and athletic band programs contributing to the vibrant culture at Southeastern. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching performance and leadership.

Responsibilities:
Percussion:
Oversee the performance development and management of the Percussion program.
Teach applied percussion percussion ensemble percussion methods and percussion pedagogy.
Recruit and rebuild the percussion studio.
Mentor students to prepare them for professional practice graduate studies and research.
Provide support to students in need of academic improvement.
Actively participate in the departments expansion.

Athletic Bands:
Assist in the administering of the university band program to promote student engagement.
Team teach for the first year the Spirit of the Southland Marching Band.
Direct and oversee the basketball pep band.
Assist with the operation of recruiting events.
Develop recruiting strategies to attract non-majors to the Marching Band
Work closely with music faculty and athletic department staff to enhance the visibility of the athletic band programs and music department.
Participate in departmental college and university service including committee work recruitment events and community outreach.
Other duties assigned based on candidates strengths and departmental needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Music by hire date
Demonstrated experience and success in teaching percussion.
Experience in Percussion courses at the secondary and/or higher education level.
Experience teaching marching bands or drum lines at the secondary and/or higher education level.
Strong organizational leadership and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree in Music
Experience teaching at the college/university level.
Evidence of successful student recruitment and program growth.
