Job Description

Job Summary
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking aScientific Curator Cell Productsto join our team. This fully remote role is essential to advancing JAXs mission by ensuring that scientific data is accurately captured standardized and integrated across internal and external platforms.

The Scientific Curator promotes the adoption of institutional metadata standards and supports individual laboratories and scientific services in submitting high-quality data and metadata. This enables proper tracking and reuse of scientific datasets across the organization. The role also involves working with external collaborators to manage the integration of externally sourced data with in-house data ensuring consistency and scientific integrity.

In addition the Scientific Curator serves as a key liaison between research teams and JAXs technical groupsincluding JAX Data Science and Research IThelping to translate complex research needs into actionable improvements in software and data infrastructure.

What You Contribute

  • Review and extract relevant data from scientific publications and experimental results.
  • Annotate and standardize biological chemical or clinical data using controlled vocabularies and ontologies.
  • Collaborate with researchers and database developers to refine data models and improve curation workflows.
  • Conduct validation error-checking and consistency reviews to ensure data quality.
  • Stay informed on scientific advancements and incorporate new knowledge into JAX databases and systems.

What Youre Good At

  • Masters degree in Molecular Biology Computational Biology Bioinformatics or a related life sciences field is required; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in scientific data curation bioinformatics or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of scientific literature experimental techniques and data interpretation.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases such as UniProt GenBank and relevant data standards.
  • Experience with data annotation and ontologies (e.g. Gene Ontology) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Perl is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail analytical thinking and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise discretion judgment and diplomacy in a high-profile environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

The salary range is $65018 - $108857. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
