Job Description

Job Title: Teacher Band Director (MS)

Reports To: Principal Director ofFine Arts and Head High School Band Director

Dept/School: Assigned Campus

Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale

Wage/Status: Exempt

Days: 187

Primary Purpose:

Provide beginning band pedagogy and instruction to 5th and 6thGrade band students with the assistance of High School students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university

Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of overall operations of a beginning school band program knowledge of band literature and technique to help develop beginner and middle school band students.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Intermediate School:

  • Develop and plan curriculum forband students fully integrating the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and verticalalignment within the AMC Band Cluster.
  • Assist cluster band staff with performance requirements enforcement of academic requirements and verification of eligibility.
  • Effectively communicate with band staff parents and co-workers.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate relationships with students staff and community.
  • Maintain a current inventory of school instruments and equipment.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations such as TMEA.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct for CSISD.
  • Actively recruit incoming band students each year.

High School:

  • Be available to assist the high school directors for summer band early morning rehearsals and attend all marching band functions including football games and marching competitions.
  • Attend all band concerts.

Middle School:

  • Direct and teachmiddle school band.
  • Directmiddle school instrument interviews in the spring and all concerts.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabalities expected for this position.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent lifting carrying 15-44 pounds: sitting standing walking kneeling.
  • Long days sometimes as long as 18 hours.
  • Frequent district and occasional statewide travel

Environmental Demands:

  • Exposure to outdoor and indoor work: exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather.

Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned. Regularly sit talk or hear. Frequently required to use hands to finger handle or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; occasionally required to stand walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision regularly work with frequent interruptions maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Regularly perform multiple highly complex tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions and compliance with legal guideline. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances and integrating into different school environments. Occasionally work prolonged and irregular hours.
