Job Description

Primary Purpose:

AVID tutor will regularly facilitate small tutorial groups using AVID methodologies under the supervision of the AVID elective teacher. The AVID tutor will serve as an example of a motivated organized and successful college student.

Qualifications:

AVID tutors should be:

A current college student (preferred)

Personable outgoing and motivated

Proficient in high school math skills (preferred)

Prompt and reliable

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

AVID tutors are expected to be able to:

Attend required trainings

Manage and facilitate small groups of students

Maintain confidentiality

Provide a positive role model

Maintain appropriate mentor relationships with students

Communicate effectively

Evaluate and provide feedback to student work

Assist AVID elective teacher

Participate in AVID field trips motivational activities and site team meetings (as needed)

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or coordinator

Equipment Used:

Audiovisual equipment copier personal computer

Working Conditions:

Moderate lifting (not to exceed 40lbs) prolonged walking standing bending pushing stooping and kneeling

Exposed to environmental conditions including heat and cold dust dirt and extreme noise

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude while working under pressure Communicate effectively and professionally at all times.
