Position Information


Be part of our Environmental Quality Regulatory Control Branch team and become an Environmental Technician.


TheDepartment of Environmental Services (ENV)Environmental Quality Divisionis hiring an Environmental Technician I to conduct various inspections investigations and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with environmental laws rules and regulations to prevent illicit discharges and illegal drain connections that affects the Citys sewer systems.

This Environmental Technician Iposition:
  • Accompanies higher level technicians during training and independently drives to various sites island-wide to perform basic field inspections and assessments for the Pretreatment Device Inspection Program.
  • Assesses commercial and industrial facilities located around the island for compliance with Federal State and local regulations permits and programs.
  • Attends training sessions and becomes familiar with practices procedures work processes equipment and techniques regulations operations and other aspects related to the Citys pretreatment and sewer service program.
  • Assists in researching and summarizing information from various sources and databases.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two years of technical field experience which involved sampling inspectional and/or investigational work relating to the enforcement of laws ordinances and/or rules and regulations.

Substitution: An Associates degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciencesand/or a Bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university inEngineering or in a Biological or Physical Sciencewill substitute for the required two years of technical field experience.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: In order to be given credit for your education clearly list your education credentials on your application. As part of the hiring process you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement. LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license as required. Current vacancies require a current valid Type 3 (automobile) license prior to appointment.
