Job Description
UI/UX Designer (part-time 28 hrs per week)

What you will be doing in this position:
The User Experience Team of the BYU Office of Information Technology is seeking to hire a part-time UI/UX Researcher and Designer. This is a part-time job with 28 hours per week. The employee may set their own schedule during 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. working hours. This position will remain part-time and will not transition into a full-time position. We have a team of full-time and student employees and are looking to augment our team with someone who can be available on a consistent basis. We are passionate about User Experience and fully support the Mission of BYU. We need someone who is similarly passionate reliable and hard-working. We welcome applicants from any major and are interested in demonstrated skills and a love for UX. We have many opportunities for training and our new designer will have opportunities to grow.

Education and Experience:
This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of you have a lot of education experience and skill well compensate you accordingly. If you are early in your career this could be a great opportunity for you levels of pay are assigned depending on experience/education/skills.
Minimum Required: Associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum Preferred: Two or more years of direct experience in UI/UX design and development
Skills abilities or knowledge preferred:
You are not required to have experience in all areas listed below. What you dont know we can teach you. We are seeking the most qualified candidates; the more you have the more likely you are to be selected. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skills.
Working knowledge of UI/UX design principles and techniques
Experience with user testing and usability analysis
Familiarity with web-based information hierarchy and design
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to prioritize and manage several projects efficiently
Problem-solving skills
Experience creating storyboards website mapping journey mapping etc.
Understanding of graphic design and web technologies
Familiarity with visual design programs such as Photoshop Illustrator and Lucidchart
Experience with wireframing/prototyping tools such as Figma Sketch or Adobe XD
Familiarity with HTML and CSS
Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions

DESIGN CHALLENGE:
Below are instructions for completing a design challenge. This challenge offers each applicant a fair and equal opportunity to demonstrate their skills. The challenge is a mandatory portion of the application.
Instructions:
Design considerably affects a users perception of a product. For websites it affects navigation accessibility and overall user satisfaction. At BYUs Office of IT we regularly re-design websites and applications for departments across campus using user testing data and design principles. This challenge will enable us to determine if you have the design skills necessary to complete tasks assigned regularly on our team.
Your task is to re-design the home page of the website for the city of Island Park Idaho ( ) using the following specifications:
Use Adobe Illustrator and submit the design as an editable PDF file.
Make sure any images you include are embedded not linked.
Convert your text to outlines to prevent any custom fonts from loading improperly on other computers.
Design only the homepage.
The width must be 1366px
You may use whatever content or images you find on the page elsewhere on the web or in your imagination. Do your best to represent the essence of this location and the needs of the users.
You may choose any font or color for your design.
Consider what information a visitor to the site would need/want to see first.
Include a paragraph explaining your design choices and any research you did. Please include your paragraph in the email text. This paragraph is one of the most important ways that we can understand your UX thinking training and experience.
