Job Description

  • Part time 60.8 hours per fortnight located in Kalgoorlie.
  • Salary: $43.08 p/hr regional allowance $2.78 p/hr super

HOPE has been a provider of community services in Western Australia for over 120 years providing much needed support for people in the areas of alcohol and other drugs mental health justice and family and domestic violence.

About the Opportunity

The Counsellor / Educator provides alcohol and other drug assessment counselling case management education and support to Step Up Step Down consumers and includes the following:

  • Deliver high-quality person-centred support and counselling to clients with complex needs
  • Facilitate individual and group sessions and coordinate recovery and goal-planning activities
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engage in regular supervision and training
  • Maintain accurate client records and provide reports to internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Build strong relationships with community partners and support client transitions to community services
  • Follow organisational policies ensure workplace safety and contribute to continuous service improvement

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in health education behavioural/social sciences youth work health/mental health nursing or approved equivalent with demonstrated experience
  • Good understanding of the complex needs of clients who experience co-occurring AOD physical and mental health problems.
  • Commitment to upholding HOPEs vision mission and values.
  • Commitment to work in culturally secure and competent ways
  • Ability to work in a team as well as autonomously to meet funding deliverables.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed administrative and computer skills.
  • Experience in case management and client record management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals and manage difficult situations.
  • An understanding of and commitment to working within professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Ability and capacity to travel to deliver outreach services which will include overnight stays depending on distance.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in the Alcohol and Other Drug or Mental Health sector.
  • A broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of people in regional Australia.
  • Sound knowledge of harm reduction practices.
  • Knowledge of the physical mental legal and social impacts of alcohol and other drugs.
  • Knowledge of Diversion and Prevention work.
  • Current knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity.
  • Experience working with mandated clients.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based interventions to address methamphetamine use.

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months) Working With Children card Current C or A class drivers license and suitable work referees.
