The Philanthropic Grants Officer plays a dual role in advancing the universitys philanthropic goals: securing private grants and enhancing donor communications. This position is responsible for identifying writing and managing proposals to private foundations and corporate funders while also crafting accurate and compelling content for stewardship reports and development communications. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and a strategic thinker who thrives on collaboration and storytelling.
Responsibilities:
Grant Writing and Proposal Management (60%)
Research and identify private foundation and corporate funding opportunities aligned with institutional priorities.
Lead the development of LOIs grant proposals and reports in coordination with faculty program staff and advancement leadership.
Maintain a pipeline and calendar of grant deadlines and reporting requirements.
Build and maintain relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.
Development Communications (30%)
Write donor-centered materials including stewardship reports for funded grants.
Collaborate with University Advancement leadership and the Strategic Communications team to ensure message alignment.
Support case statement development for fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
Tailor messaging to various donor audiences and maintain a high-touch customer-oriented approach to all donor engagement.
Compliance and Interdivisional Coordination (10%)
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws university and system policies and donor directives.
Reference and abide by industry guidelines best practices and writing standards.
Meet regularly with faculty and staff to convey the proposal collaboration process
Serve as primary liaison with A&M System-based sponsored programs staff on privately funded research grant proposals and reporting as appropriate.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree or higher in related field.
Two (2) years of related experience in writing grant proposals.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in English Communications Nonprofit Management or a related field preferred.
Five (5) years of experience in grant writing development-specific communications or other writing-intensive professional positions.
Thorough understanding of the grants cycle grants compliance budget creation and stewardship reporting.
Higher education experience preferred.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional writing editing and storytelling skills.
Ability to translate complex academic content into accessible persuasive language.
Demonstrated success securing philanthropic grants.
Ability to research gather investigate compile and present information clearly.
Ability to focus and deliver quality under deadline constraints.
Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively across teams.
Experience working in Excel PowerPoint and Word. Experienced working with Raisers Edge preferred.
Location: Hybrid (3/2 for non-manager positions)
