Position Summary:
The custodian II will provide routine housekeeping duties including but not limited to floor work pressure washing removal of heavy trash window cleaning etc. in an assigned area. The custodian II is responsible for maintenance of flooring throughout the residential colleges and the college master houses including buffing stripping and sealing of hard surfaces and shampooing of carpets. The custodian II also assists with movement of furniture and minor maintenance assignments. This individual may lock and unlock assigned buildings and secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows reports any unauthorized occupants and turn off lights.
This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate has experience working in a team environment. H/She should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks and should have at least one year floor care experience.
Workplace Requirements:
On campus position: This position is exclusively on-site necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at insert location and schedule. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
- Work Environment: Combined indoor/outdoor work environment in a variety of university settings which may include offices food serveries and residential facilities. May be exposed to temperature extremes in facilities that are not climate controlled. May be required to work in restricted spaces.
- Work Hazards: Work hazards include exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals. Some work may occur at heightened elevations on ladders or scaffolding or in wet areas.
- Work Schedule: Work schedule will alternate between 11:00am - 7:30pm and 7:00am - 3:30pm. Weekly schedule will vary and will include working on weekends and holidays - Must be available to work any shift required. Overtime may be required in May through August.
Physical Demands
- Moderate to heavy physical activity which includes the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. bend stoop climb balance stand and walk up to 8 hours a day. Other physical requirements of the job include the ability to bend/crouch/or kneel lift see reach climb and balance.
This role is classified as an essential position requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.
Hiring Range:$15.72 per hour
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions underFLSAare eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- No formal education
- One year related floor work training
Skills:
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Must be proficient in the use of large commercial buffers
- Must be able to speak and understand basic English
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with others
- Ability to follow directions
Essential Functions:
- Strips scrubs buffs floors
- Seals waxes and applies finishes
- Shampoos and extract carpets
- Pressure washes surfaces
- Removes heavy trash
- Performs special assignments in relation to custodial services
- Washes exterior windows cloisters and entrances
- As needed cleans showers restroom floors lavatories fixtures kitchenettes public spaces offices laboratories etc.
- Replenishes custodial supplies
- Vacuums sweeps dusts and mops floors
- Cleans and polishes furniture glass doors mirrors walls and other surfaces
- Identifies and reports needed repairs
- Assists other custodians with work as needed
- Performs all other duties assigned
