Duties and Responsibilities
- *Conducts assessments of Manoa Career Center (MCC) staffs technical hardware and software needs and requirements. Recommends technology procures implements and maintains hardware and software.
- *Develops and implements comprehensive plans documents and system backups to ensure data integrity and security. Validates and restores backups to minimize data loss.
- *Trains staff in the appropriate use of technical hardware and software.
- *Manages and maintains local area network (LAN) computers security protocols user accounts networked devices and firewalls.
- *Implements security procedures to minimize or isolate the impact of network intrusions attacks or other incidents on local area network (LAN) resources.
- *Manages inventory of computer equipment and ensures the proper disposal of computer hardware software peripherals and consumables.
- *Works with MCC staff to determine information needs and requirements. Designs develops documents and maintains databases ad-hoc reports and custom applications.
- *Develops and maintains department websites career services web systems and resources.
- *Works under minimal supervision directly with users and assesses technical requirements based on strategic initiatives and user needs.
- *Performs programming of web and database applications.
- *Integrates up-to-date methodology demonstrates advanced skills project planning and documentation to accomplish planned projects.
- *Keeps abreast of advances in information technology and assesses the feasibility of incorporating into project plans and specifications.
- *Learns new technologies systems software and equipment needed to stay current perform duties and advises users especially in specialty areas.
- As the technical expert assists staff with resolving hardware and software issues.
- Develops and experiments with new ideas techniques and applications to increase job productivity and efficiency.
- Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements and techniques particularly in the field of higher education and provides technical insights and recommendations to the department.
- With guidance from or consultation with senior staff works with IT peers or customer personnel in other departments or campus operations external vendors service providers or institutions to collect requirements complete projects or resolve problems.
- Coordinates project efforts or work tasks that may include integrating the work of other IT professional staff student technicians contractors and suppliers.
- Keeps current on rapid developments and emerging technologies as relevant to student service delivery.
- *Works a variable schedule including days nights weekends and/or on holidays as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science Information Technology Management Information Systems and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for website development desktop support networking Internet services and TCP/IP protocols; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
- Functional knowledge of multi-user system administration demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply principles concepts methodology and terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of technology systems hardware and software associated with desktop and server support networking or Internet services.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve routine problems in the area of website development desktop support networking or internet services.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
- Experience with multi-user system administration.
- Functional knowledge Windows MacOS and Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 30 pounds independently or with assistance.
- Considerable knowledge of proper computer equipment disposal.
- Experience building interactive websites.
- Functional knowledge of issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
- Working knowledge of Macromedia Flash Dreamweaver or Freehand.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop Premier or After Effects.
- Demonstrated ability to speak read comprehend interpret and write fluently in English.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies independently and in a timely manner using books manuals and other resources.
- Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day night weekend and/or holiday hours as directed.
Desirable Qualifications
- One year experience in web design and application development.
- Functional knowledge of data management data protection system backup hardware and software methodologies and practices.
- Considerable knowledge of the following systems: Microsoft Windows Microsoft Windows Server Microsoft SQL Server and/or MacOS.
- Functional knowledge of the following programming languages: SQL MySQL HTML CSS PHP and/or Javascript.
- Functional knowledge of content management systems such as WordPress and/or Cascade.
- Ability to create custom reports using structured query language (SQL) queries.
- Demonstrated ability in managing Windows servers and services such as Active Directory and file servers.
- Experience with student services delivery systems.
- Working knowledge of issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
