Basic Function: The Buyer is responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels through effective purchasing vendor management and data accuracy. This role supports business operations by ensuring product availability addressing supply issues analyzing inventory trends and contributing to strategic purchasing decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Generates places and manages purchase orders; follows up with vendors on delivery pricing and quality to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Monitors and updates reorder points lead times and delivery dates in ERP to ensure sufficient stock with heightened focus on high-impact or high-demand items.
  • Creates and maintains accurate product data - including pricing vendor details and item status - across ERP and eCommerce systems.
  • Identifies and resolves supply issues such as delayed or missing orders; communicates progress and resolutions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with internal departments to align inventory levels with demand forecasts space limitations and financial constraints.
  • Analyzes inventory movement to identify aging slow-moving or obsolete items; recommends and supports markdowns returns or other disposition strategies.
  • Conducts product and industry research to support informed purchasing decisions closeout buys overstock opportunities and new product proposals.
  • Sources and evaluates alternative vendors and products to reduce risk improve cost efficiency or fill supply gaps.
  • Identifies and executes drop-ship and eCommerce opportunities to support business growth.
  • Assists in prioritizing purchasing needs for GNE-owned brands and proprietary product lines.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of important developments potential problems and all related information necessary for effective management.
  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
  • Attends training as determined from GNE.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in purchasing inventory management or supply chain roles.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g. Business Central) for managing purchase orders inventory levels and product data.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis including pivot tables and basic formulas.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and negotiate with vendors to ensure timely delivery quality and cost efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Proven ability to identify troubleshoot and resolve supply chain issues such as delayed or missing orders.
  • Ability to manage multiple purchase orders prioritize tasks and maintain accurate data across systems.

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • Experience purchasing for manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Experience using forecasting software.
  • Prior budgetary responsibility for product line purchasing.

Travel

  • Occasional local travel may be required
