You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThis position is housed in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics. This staff member will perform case managementand followupdutiesfortheIowaNewbornScreeningProgram(INSP)and affiliated state newborn screening include clinical educational administrative liaison and research activities as well as data entry and tracking.
This job is 100% remote (in Iowa) but does require some travel for intermittent in-person meetings and activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Perform case management activities for Iowa and other state newborn screening programs which include:telephone fax or email notification to primary care providers birthing facilities specialists health care workers and/or parents for abnormal newborn screening results; communicate recommendations in accord with established protocols; assist primary care providers facilities and parents/guardians in obtaining a repeat screen and/or confirmatorytesting;informmedicalconsultantsoftheresultsoftheconfirmatorytesting to assess next steps; assist with the referral process to specialists; work with the programs medical consultants to ascertain an outcome for cases.
Document information and outcomes in multiple data entry into databases (state national and potentially disorder-specific). Gather collate and review data as assigned. Workwithprogramstafftointerpretdataandmakedecisionsinaccordwithestablishedprotocols.
Attend and participate in meetings as assigned. These meetings could include staff meetings case closure meetings disorder specific meetings state newborn screening advisory committee meetings could also include attendance at state is required.
Participateinthedevelopmentandreviewofprotocolsandotherdocuments.
Assistwiththedevelopmentandimplementationofeducationalprogramsfornewborn screening stakeholders.
will require travel to provide face-to-face education when necessary (within Iowa or states with which the newborn screening program contracts for services).
Participateinqualityimprovementprojectsasassigned.
AssistProgramManagerwithdevelopmentandimplementationofscreeningfornew disorders added to the newborn screening program as assigned.
Assistwithand/orprepareandpresentnewbornscreeningrelatedclinicalandresearch projects such as abstracts posters journal articles or presentations.
Maintainskillsandcompetenciesrelatedtocasemanagementandshort-termfollowupduties.
Communicate expectations and provide support and resources that are in alignment with thevisionand trategicplanningoftheUniversitytofostercreativityandinnovationintheworkplace.
Provideweekendcallonweekendsandholidaysasassigned.(1in5 depending on staffing)

About the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics
The Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics is committed to excellence in providing comprehensive services for children adults and prenatal patients in the diagnosis treatment and management of genetic conditions. The Divisions multidisciplinary team is comprised of board-certified medical geneticists clinical biochemical geneticists molecular genetic pathologists nurse practitioners physician assistants genetic counselors nurses and dietitians. Our medical genetics team collaborates with state and federal agencies educators researchers support groups and others to provide the latest information and treatment options for patients and their families.
Education:
Required:
RN relevant bachelors and/or masters degree (genetics public health) or equivalent experience
Required Qualifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate licensure (for example: nursing genetic counseling) in Iowa and all other relevant states as indicated
Minimumofoneyearof relevant experience (such as nursing public health maternal or newborn medical care medical case management)
Excellentoralandwrittencommunicationskillsincludingrelayingcomplicatedmedical information in a clear concise and definitive manner to health care professionals
Abilitytotraveltosamedayand/orto multipledaymeetings
Previousexperienceandabilityto workinafast-pacedandtime-criticalenvironment
Previousexperienceandabilityto workindependentlyaswell aswithinateam
Demonstratedcriticalthinkingand assessmentskills
Demonstratedhigh attentiontodetail includingstrongorganizationalskills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word and Excel)
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Direct experience in newborn screening
Pediatric or obstetrics nursing experience
Experienceinprovidingpatientorhealthrelatededucationwithemphasison knowledgeof adult learning theory to small and large groups of people
Proficiency with databasing and statistics
Demonstratedprojectmanagementskills;includingdevelopingplanningand implementing initiatives
Demonstratedexperiencewithqualityimprovementprojectsand/ormanagement
BSN
Masters degree in Nursing
RN with certification or focus in public health
RN with certification or focus in genetics
Relevant Masters (Masters of Public Health Masters of Science in Genetic Counseling)
