Job Description

Senior Director Chief of Staff - Compliance & Ethics

We are looking for a Senior Director Chief of Staff for Compliance & Ethics to help maximize our programs and our organizational engagement and effectiveness. In this position you will apply your strategic skills to key company challenges serving as a trusted advisor to the leadership team and helping set and implement the vision and focus areas for the Compliance & Ethics organization. And you will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight encourages you to take on new responsibility promotes continuous learning and rewards innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning & execution: Design and implement processes and routines to advance our organizational vision and goals. Take ownership of goals defining plans and achieving results. Own and manage processes around defining and communicating the strategic vision goals and annual planning while ensuring operational priorities are delivered with high quality quality.

  • High profile projects: Proactively identify opportunities to add value beyond what were currently doing or jump in when theres no clear leader for a project. Youll come up to speed quickly use your experience and leadership skills to take the lead and ensure the project is delivered and resourced appropriately.

  • Partnerships: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: Audit Legal Enterprise Risk Management and more to drive improvement in quality of our compliance program and general team management. Partner with Finance to manage the team budget and forecasting.

  • Leadership and Engagement: Operate as a key partner and thought leader with the senior leader in leading a highly engaged world class team and compliance organization. Partner with leadership team members to optimize operating rhythms and engagement strategies. Serve as an ambassador for the organization and participate in attracting coaching and retaining talent in the organization..

  • Strategic orientation: You have a proven track record of analytical thinking decision making and problem solving. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a pragmatic and process orientation

  • People Leadership: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a small high-performing team as well as partners across the enterprise. The culture you help build will foster innovation drive critical decisions and consistently deliver results.

  • Executive Communication: Impeccable written and oral communication skills and attention to detail coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect and interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Clear results orientation: Have an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. Drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

This role will offer personal and professional growth and the opportunity to:

  • Go deep into the organization to understand the Compliance & Ethics program

  • Be a key member of the senior leadership team and strategic partner to Capital Ones Chief Compliance Officer and other senior leaders

  • Have a direct influence on the strategic direction of the organization

  • Lead key horizontal initiatives

  • Have a direct impact on the culture and engagement of the team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in strategy development

  • At least 7 years of experience managing senior stakeholders across business functions

  • At least 5 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree

  • 7 years of experience working with risk leaders

  • Travel as needed to other U.S. based company locations up to 25% of the time

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean VA: $264300 - $301700 for Sr. Director Chief of Staff


Richmond VA: $240300 - $274300 for Sr. Director Chief of Staff










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
