FTE and working pattern: 35 Hours (5 from 7 days) 1 FTE the role will be based at the Universitys campus in Edinburgh.

Detailed Description

The Information Services department of Heriot-Watt University is committed to delivering integrated excellent customer centric Library and IT Services to the staff and students of the University.

The Process Analyst reporting to the Head of Digital Transformation will investigate document & contribute to the recommendation of improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes assisting the University in its Strategy.

Key duties and responsibilities

Investigation and Problem Solving

  • Investigate operational needs and problems and opportunities
  • Assist in defining acceptance tests for recommendations.
  • Performs a range of work sometimes complex and non-routine in a variety of environments.
  • Apply methodical approaches to issue definition and resolution.

Communication

  • Working with all levels of the University gathering information on current working processes for instance who performs an activity why they perform it what is the activity where is the activity and when is the activity performed.
  • To gather the knowledge so the University can organise various resources in the best possible sequence to deliver a service and store it within the IS SharePoint site to add to a centralised store of analysis.
  • Document the current state of new IT systems where appropriate.
  • Liaise with colleagues across the university checking for analysis that may already have taken place to avoid duplication of effort.

Managing Resources

  • Organise their own work prioritised by the Head of Digital Transformation on a daily basis.
  • Understand and collaborate on the analysis of user/customer needs and represents this in their work.
  • Describe the principles of process mapping and the evidence-based benefits of applying this methodology to current working practices.

Service Delivery

  • On the direction of the Head of Digital Transformation investigate operational requirements problems and opportunities seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated processes across all our Global HWU campuses.

Decision Making Processes and Outcomes

  • Contribute to the recommendation of improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes and organisation.
  • Receives specific direction accept guidance and has work reviewed at agreed milestones from the Head of Digital Transformation
  • Determine when issues should be escalated to a higher level.

Education qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Educated to Scottish Highers/A-Level standard (numerate subject)
  • Experience analysing and documenting business processes using recognised analysis tools
  • Proven ability to use process mapping techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce clear documentation and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements and information
  • Evidence of good organisational and time management skills including the ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and levels of seniority.

Desirable

  • Degree in a numerate Subject
  • Lean qualification
  • Experience of working in the Higher Education sector
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection regulations
  • Knowledge of the project lifecycle methodologies and RAID

The position sits within the Digital Transformation Divisionwithin Information Services responsible for delivering and managing Digital Transformation for all campuses and for all staff and students to support delivery of operational excellence.
