Job Description Summary

The ADA/504 Administrator position provides institutional leadership and overall responsibility for coordinating Wake Forest Universitys efforts to provide an accessible and inclusive campus for qualified individuals with disabilities in compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504) and their implementing regulations and other relevant state and federal laws for all University programs services and activities.

This position is responsible for oversight of applicable University policies including handling the disability and pregnancy accommodation process for faculty and staff and the non-academic accommodation process for students. This position is also responsible for managing student disability grievance procedures coordinating institutional resources and advising university officials on the reasonable accommodation process and accessibility requirements. The Administrator closely collaborates with multiple University offices and divisions including but not limited to the Center for Learning Access and Student Success (CLASS) Office Human Resources Legal Department and the Office of Accessible Technology.

This role oversees disability accommodations for faculty and staff as well as grievances related to student accommodations.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director provides leadership coordination administration and oversight to advance the Universitys priorities relating to access and accessibility.

  • Collaborates with various departments (academic administrative facilities Environmental Health & Safety etc.) to facilitate accommodations and support services for students (non-academic) employees or visitors with disabilities and addresses accessibility barriers.
  • Ensures appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries regarding compliance with the ADA 504 and other relevant laws.
  • Works in partnership with a network of University partners offices and programs who provide direct support resources and outreach on ADA/Section 504 matters and initiatives.
  • Provides consultation evaluates requests and provides oversight over reasonable accommodations including accommodations in non-academic settings.
  • Maintains accurate records regarding disability accommodation requests and resolutions
  • Facilitates the provision of accommodations such as assistive technologies accessible materials interpreters etc.
  • Assists in the development implementation and revision of institutional policies related to disability accommodations and accessibility.
  • Stays informed about changes in ADA/504 regulations and applicable laws and recommends policy adjustments as needed.
  • Provides workshops and resources to faculty and staff on disability accommodations and best practices.
  • Conducts Supervisor Training as it relates to disability and pregnancy-related accommodations.
  • Liaises with WFUs Disability Affinity Resource Group.

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Masters degree in psychology special education rehabilitation human resources management public administration or other related field of study or education and experience that equates to an advanced degree. A Juris Doctorate (JD) or related terminal degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in a leadership role or progressively responsible experience in the field of disability services and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of applicable disability and accessibility laws including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the functional impact of disabilities and related accessibility strategies for barrier removal.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance complex cases and drive them to a timely conclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate well with people and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration in complex organizational settings.
  • Ability to maintain confidential records and provide timely updates to those accessing services and supervisors.

Preferred Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience with architecture and accessibility of campus physical facilities including principles of universal design
  • Experience presenting to large and small groups
