Position Summary
The Accountant 1 is a team member in the department of Budget and Planning. This position is responsible for providing direct support and guidance across all university divisions and departments in annual and biennial budgets monitoring and reviewing progress against budgets budgeting toward department and university goals preparing long range forecasts working with HR Payroll and other departments on budgeted salary issues and responding to requests for information from internal and external parties. While directly reporting to the Director of Budget and Planning the Accountant 1 may have duties assigned that cross functional operations including Business Services Payroll and Human Resources as required to fulfill analytical and functional needs in those respective centers. Work is usually performed independently and reviewed as needed to ensure accuracy completeness and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ) and regulatory standards. This individual must demonstrate a commitment and ability to uphold university policies and maintain the highest ethical standards.

4. Campus Relations Frequent in-person telephone and written contact with university administration faculty staff and technical staff management or staff at other state agencies and occasionally vendors. Topics may include but are not limited to account balances and reconciliations items on reports budget balances transfers payroll accounting etc. These interactions are necessary to exchange information address procedural questions collect data make recommendations and clarifications secure approvals assist management with solving problems. The Accountant 1 will become a supportive functional and technical resource on budgetary and fiscal topics to include legality appropriateness status policy and procedure. This position will help prepare and offer training in budget and fiscal topics at various campus venues including the tuition advisory council and student incidental fee council. This position will also field many incoming requests to the director and assist with responding accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience using Banner software inclusive of Finance Position Control and/or Payroll Knowledge and experience of fund accounting including GASB financial statements Advanced spreadsheet (Excel) experience including complex formula utilization pivot table manipulation database extracts/integrations and forecast modeling. Strong computer skills in all Microsoft Office products ( MOS Certifications preferred) Excellent organizational skills attention to detail ability to work independently and be self-motivated
