Job Description

The Peer Recovery Coach provides peer support services serves as a consumer advocate provides consumer information and peer support for consumers in emergency outpatient or inpatient settings. The Peer Recovery Coach performs a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over their lives and recovery process. The Peer Recovery Coach will model competence in recovery and coping.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. These essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Assist consumers in articulating personal goals and holistic steps towards recovery.
  • Assist consumers in identifying barriers to recovery goals.
  • Assist consumers in identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills.
  • Observe and reinforce positive progress that consumers make toward recovery goals.
  • Teach problem-solving skills to combat negative self-talk and fears
  • Support the vocational choices consumers make and assist them in overcoming job-related anxieties and conflicts.
  • Assist consumers in building social skills by demonstrating and reinforcing proper conduct and respectful interaction.
  • Assist non-consumer staff in identifying program elements that are supportive or destructive to recovery.
  • Attend treatment team meetings and medication appointments as requested to represent the needs and perspectives of the consumer.
  • Utilize unique recovery experience to teach and role model the value of every individuals recovery experience.
  • Maintain effective coping and self-help techniques.
  • Continue to develop professional skills by maintaining certification through required coursework.
  • Attend relevant seminars and training whenever offered.
  • Investigate community resources for appropriate services to consumers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of consumer information.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with consumers and avoid dual relationships within the community.
  • Support treatment team objectives and strategies.
  • Fulfill documentation requirements of employer accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Use inclusive culturally appropriate language and attitudes with all patients and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates commitment to and practices in line with Bowen Healths core values of respect integrity mission and stewardship.

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Thorough and empathetic communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to be patient nonjudgmental and emotionally mature.
  • Ability to exercise sound judge.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Self-identify as a current or former consumer. Must be maintaining healthy recovery from mental illness and/or addictions. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to meet written communication requirements. Must be able to verify completion of state-approved training program and passing score on certification exam.
  • Certificate or Professional License: CRS Certification.
  • Valid drivers license and active auto insurance coverage.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
  • Must be a minimum 21 years of age.
