About the role:
Reporting to the Manager Community & Indigenous Relations the Senior Lead Indigenous and Community Affairs will lead the implementation of Health Safety Environment and Community (HSEC) standards focused on Indigenous relations and EVRs external engagements. The successful candidate will play a key role in strategy development and the oversight of process improvement initiatives related to relationship-building socio- economics environment and consultation throughout Indigenous governments and communities.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    • Lead the development and execution of Indigenous community engagement strategy and implementation plans particularly as per existing agreements
    • Provide analysis of Indigenous agreement needs and lead the development of renewed implementation or negotiation mandates as necessary in collaboration with multi-disciplinary internal teams
    • Represent EVR in a variety of settings with Indigenous governments and communities including liaising with regional provincial and federal agencies as necessary
    • Lead social risk assessments and mitigation plans to support regulatory applications and permitting needs with respect to Indigenous relations
    • Supervise related implementation plans and participate in regulatory consultations with Indigenous governments and communities
    • Develop and implement culturally- sensitive Indigenous community development programs and advise on opportunities for community investment in Indigenous communities
    • Collaborate on Indigenous procurement contracting and employment initiatives
    • Support senior management reporting annual budget development and tracking and inputting of engagement records into stakeholder information management systems
    • Support the rollout of EVRs Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training (ICAT) across all employee segments
    • Liaise and mentor internal groups and site Indigenous relations practitioners across the company to communicate strategy best practices and policy development with respect to working together with Indigenous Peoples
    • Collaborate in the mentorship and development of a team of consultation and engagement professionals

Requirements:

    • Minimum eight years of demonstrated expertise in Indigenous Relations consultation negotiations health and safety operations or related experience
    • Post-secondary education in Communications Business Social Sciences or a related field (or a combination of equivalent work experience)
    • Strong understanding of human rights Indigenous culture reconciliation and issues faced by Indigenous Peoples
    • Strong understanding of best practices and trends in effective Indigenous engagement consultation and Participation Agreement negotiations and implementation preferably in the resource extraction sector
    • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
    • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory process consultation and engagement requirements and context for mine development projects including consultation adequacy
    • Demonstrated negotiation and diplomacy skills
    • Proven ability to supervise and mentor teams
    • Previous experience in designing or facilitating Indigenous cultural awareness training considered a strong asset
$132000 - $163000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience skills and competencies and considers internal equity.
