Learning Support Specialist Teacher - Secondary Division

Avenues So Paulo is seeking a Learning Support Specialist Teacher to join our team. In this role you will play a key part in identifying and supporting the diverse learning needs of students to help them thrive at Avenues. Your responsibilities will include assessing students learning profiles developing implementing and monitoring individualized education plans (Avenues Learning Plans - ALPs) delivering direct support for the students in their learning journey and working collaboratively with teachers parents and other professionals to promote student success. You will be an integral member of the Student Success Team (SST) which includes learning specialists and wellbeing professionals and will also collaborate with teachers and division leaders across the campus.

• As a Learning Support Specialist Teacher at Avenues So Paulo your work will be grounded in deep collaboration data-informed decision-making and a commitment to inclusive student-centered education. Key responsibilities include: 

• Conduct formal and informal assessments to identify students learning profiles including learning differences and other support requirements.

• Prepare clear actionable evaluations and reports that inform individualized support strategies and instructional planning.

• Develop implement and monitor Avenues Learning Plans tailored to each students unique strengths and areas of need.

• Set and review measurable goals in collaboration with teachers families and the Student Success Team (SST) making data-informed adjustments as needed.

• Deliver direct in-class support small-group or one-on-one instruction using evidence-based approaches in areas such as reading writing and math. 

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt instruction and materials ensuring all students can access and engage with the curriculum.

• Work closely with teachers to integrate learning support into the classroom and develop inclusive instructional practices.

• Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians to share progress challenges and strategies for support at home.

• Collaborate with psychologists counselors and other specialists to ensure cohesive comprehensive support for each student.

• Engage in school-wide professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

• Keep accurate and confidential records of student progress assessments and individual learning plans (Avenues Learning Plan - ALP).

• Partner with wellbeing professionals to offer individual or group support as needed.

• Participate in team meetings planning sessions and school-wide initiatives as an active member of the Avenues learning community

Qualifications :

You will bring most or all of these to the role: 

• Bachelors degree in Pedagogy or a related area.

• Valid teaching credential or certification in Special Education or Psychopedagogy or a related area.

• Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Portuguese is a strong advantage.

• A minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a Learning Specialist or in a similar role.

• Demonstrated experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs including special educational and emotional challenges.

• Proven ability to design and implement individualized learning plans based on student assessments and data.

• Deep understanding of cognitive development from early childhood through elementary school.

• Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies

• Expertise in administering and interpreting educational assessments to inform learning support and referrals.

• Familiarity with bilingual development; 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers families and multidisciplinary teams.

• Highly organized with strong time management skills and attention to detail.

• Empathetic patient and passionate about supporting students academic emotional and social growth.

• Demonstrates intellectual curiosity self-reflection and a commitment to continuous professional growth.

• A deep sense of personal responsibility for the success of students and fellow educators.
