Job Description

Manager of Violence Prevention Village (MVPV) (Full-time 40 hours) Exempt


BUILD Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed self-motivated and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention violence prevention and youth development organization based on Chicagos West Side. This position will be dedicated to the Violence Prevention Villages (VPV) project that aims to provide positive proactive and preventive upstream support and services to youth Pre k 8 and their households. BUILD partners with schools to improve behavioral social/emotional and school outcomes for students and we engage the nonprofit ecosystem to support household wellbeing and stability. We follow and support youth and households if they are willing and aim to improve long term well-being educational attainment and economic stability across generations.


The Manager of Violence Prevention Village is a school-based position that manages the implementation of services and support to an entire Pre k 8 school and all the members of households associated with students in that school. This position will coordinate staff who provide BUILDs in-school and after-school community intervention and support programming and home-based assessment and services as well as referrals and emergency assistance. The Manager must coordinate resources and engage with school leadership staff and parents to ensure BUILD provides positive proactive and preventive upstream supports and services to to improve behavioral social/emotional and school outcomes for students and we engage the nonprofit ecosystem to support household wellbeing and stability. The Manager will ensure quality programming operates across sites and will be responsible for the evaluation and tracking of program Manager is responsible for ensuring their school site(s) understand the state of VPV implementation that the school community supports and engages in effective implementation and all resources are coordinated to maximize the benefits to and impacts created for youth and members of their VPV Manager reports directly to the Director of Prevention.

Responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Provide oversight and management of all VPV staff in assigned site(s).
  • Provide direct leadership and supervision to all VPV staff in assigned site(s).
  • Support the team to develop and implement effective responsive and data-driven prevention and intervention program services for all interested youth and household members.
  • Coordinate services to maximize impact while minimizing overlap
  • Ensure BUILDs VPV services are welcome and understood by all members of the school community including parents
  • Work collaboratively with school administration partner organizations parents and school councils to provide BUILD programs and services including coordinating space and resources sharing with school leadership and staff
  • Leverage BUILDs program area managers and directors to support training and development of program staff so they can appropriately engage with the at-risk population.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to plan program activities.
  • Stay current with new trends program content and delivery methods locally and nationally related to in and after school prevention and intervention programming.
  • Participate in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of BUILD Inc.
  • Responsible for updates of progress changes and challenges in programming and making commendations for the needs of the program.
  • Support team coordination and integration building a positive support and upstream-focused culture
  • Maintain program materials and ensure they are organized and stocked appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Documentation and Competencies

  • Works collaboratively with program staff to recruit and retain youth participants at each site.
  • Ensures the proper attendance data collection and record retention are maintained in approved agency databases.
  • Manages the ongoing collection of data (baseline year-end (academic) interpersonal and pro-social behaviors).
  • Manages data and statistics to ensure grant compliance.
Requirements

  • Highly organized to set priorities develop a work schedule and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills are required as well as effective resource management (material and staff)
  • Proven background working collaboratively with groups of diverse backgrounds and experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including select weekends and events.
  • Ability to apply strategic and creative thinking while being persistent motivated and energetic along with the ability to work in a detail-oriented fashion.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in social work youth development or related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience in a youth or social services program.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in positive youth development.
  • Experience with youth and/or public program facilitation and management required.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
  • Must have a valid drivers license access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally.
  • Must be willing and able to become an approved driver of BUILD vehicles.
  • Proficient in Windows and Excel required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to physically interact with children and youths.
