Job Description

As a Research Chemist I you will join the Silica business in QEMETICA to support the Silica Pilot Plant in driving new precipitated silica technology scale-up and manufacturing process development. The Research Chemist will be a member of the Silica Research & Development team and work with colleagues in R&D Technical Service and Manufacturing to develop and validate new precipitated silica products toward the goal of full-scale production and commercialization. The Research Chemist will ensure safe and efficient operation of the Silica Pilot Plant while achieving key deliverables and driving continuous improvement.

You will be seated at the Research Center in Monroeville PA and report to the Research Manager. QEMETICA offers excellent medical dental and vision benefits; match 401k and retirement benefits; and paid holidays and vacation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure safe work in the Silica Pilot Plant including the operation of equipment and handling of chemicals.
  • Learn and apply the key chemical concepts of precipitated silica technology to accelerate the development and scale-up of new silica products.
  • Collaborate with Silica R&D and Technical Service to translate new silica development opportunities or customer needs into pilot-scale manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate closely with the silica manufacturing plants to successfully transfer pilot-scale silica manufacturing capabilities and processes.
  • Solve technical problems through appropriate scientific experimental and statistical methods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in chemistry or a relevant technical field such as Chemical Engineering Materials Science or an Engineering discipline with a strong background in chemistry.
  • 13 years of experience in a chemical laboratory setting.
  • Commitment to safe work practices including following all laboratory procedures and contributing to the maintenance of high safety standards.
  • Experience documenting and communicating research findings via detailed technical reports and presentations.
  • Physical ability to wear critical personal protective equipment such as a respirator during some chemical processes.
