Pacific Northwest College of Art - Open call for part-time BFA Faculty for General Education Courses
PNCA invites applications for a part-time faculty pool in the undergraduate Bachelor of Fine Arts program to teach General Education courses. All courses meet in-person at our campus at 511 NW Broadway in Portland Oregon. We are hiring for already scheduled courses for the FA25 and SP26 terms as well as for an instructor pool for future terms or changing course needs.
Exploring Visual Culture - FA25 term // Tuesdays 6:00-8:45 pm: This first-year course has a shared syllabus and readings. The course explores contemporary art and design by considering the historical and critical frameworks of a range of cultural products. This is a lecture and discussion-based course.
History of Animation - SP26 term // This course targeted toward animation majors but open to all students provides an overview and history of the methods of the animated cartoon and feature film.
Interdisciplinary seminars - Instructor pool // These courses use multiple disciplinary lenses to approach complex topics. Current examples include Capitalism and Ecology Youth Protest Movements and Philosophy of Sustainable Design. All courses emphasize discussion research and collaborative learning.
Minimum Qualifications
MA in relevant discipline (PhD preferred)
As this course is in person on the PNCA campus in Portland the instructor must live in Portland or the surrounding area.
Commitment to connecting academic inquiry with contemporary social and cultural issues
Willingness to learn and use Canvas PNCAs Learning Management System.
Preferred Qualifications
College-level teaching experience (particularly with student-centered discussion-based learning)
Demonstrated achievement and involvement in chosen discipline
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
