Description of Work

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.


Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. This temporary position is located in Sylva - Jackson County.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $42.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).


This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 87 Bonnie Ln Sylva NC 28779.

The employee in this position will have considerable knowledge of the principles techniques and methods of speech/language pathology as applicable to children birth to three including speech and language development articulation phonology oral-motor function and pediatric dysphagia. Working knowledge of augmentative communication options and devices for this population. Ability to deliver SLP services both in-person and virtually. Ability to evaluate patient response and progress and to present evaluative reports in case staffing and multidisciplinary team meetings. Ability to work effectively with patients patients families medical personnel and other CDSA staff members and to deal tactfully with the public. Ability to travel throughout a 4-county area as needed (travel reimbursement or state vehicle provided).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Considerable knowledge of services policies and procedures related to area of specialization.
Ability to compile assimilate and organize printed and electronic information.
Ability to utilize relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
Ability to identify and understand issues problems and opportunities; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience; ability to use correct grammar organization and structure.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Masters Degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology and 2 years of experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist. Additional Training/Experience: Experience in a multi-disciplinary pediatric setting. Licensed to practice as a speech/language pathologist in the state of North Carolina. Employee is responsible for maintaining licensure in good standing. Additional Licensure or Certification Preferred: Certification of Clinical Competence by the American Speech Language Hearing Association is required.
