Position:

Extended Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher

Available September 2025 through no later than December 2025

Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English History Mathematics and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

The Opportunity:
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks an extended term substitute History Social Studies Teacher Grades 9-12 to join our caring and innovative community. The successful candidate will have experience planning and implementing culturally responsive curriculum that promotes the development of historical thinking and literacy skills. They will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students. The teacher will have an appreciation and awareness for the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Moreover they will be fully committed to continuously learning improving reflecting and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lessons aligned with district history curriculum and CRLS Instructional Guidelines.
  • Collaborate with all team members including but not limited to special educators instructional coaches paraprofessionals interventionists and other support personnel.
  • Assess students regularly andrefine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Integrate social emotional learning into the classroom and work to foster a safe caring and active learning community.
  • Partner with families and include them in the students learning and development as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school.
  • Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations.
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will pursue a dignified next step.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their childs education.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Extended Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Two or more years of secondary Social Studies or History teaching experience with a proven track record of high achievement in the classroom.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience leading instruction in urban school settings.
  • A deep commitment to equity and culturally responsive instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts History and Social Science Framework.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required; Masters degree strongly preferred.
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in History/Social Science 5-12 preferred
  • A strong work ethic combined with a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
