THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated
senior-level Marine Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in shipboard auxiliary systems to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)s Ship Design Team in
Baltimore MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design optimization and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems ship machinery integration cargo handling systems and weight handling systems calculations and analyses as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs standards and regulations.
Typical Responsibilities:- Provide technical support and documentation design develop and evaluate the operation of marine vessels ship machinery and related equipment to include but not limited to: auxiliary systems hydraulics weight handling equipment rudders piping pumps valves and HVAC and apply to applicable design and requirements.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
- Provide leadership and coordinate review efforts for verification and validation work for Auxiliary and piping systems related work efforts in the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Design develop and evaluate operation of marine vessels shipboard auxiliary systems and piping review and develop technical data packages provide oversight on development of machinery arrangements conduct and oversee trade studies.
- Review design review comments submitted by junior engineers and advise decisionmakers on considerations for high impact and critical design review decisions.
- Provide mentorship to junior mechanical engineers related to the area of shipboard auxiliary and piping systems ship machinery integration cargo handling systems and weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
Location: Primarily onsite (3-5 days/week) atUSCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore MD.
Travel:Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required:This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
Typical Knowledge Skills and Abilities:- Bachelors degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical engineering or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Masters degree preferred.
- At least six (6) years of progressive experience in design optimization and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems ship machinery integration cargo handling systems and weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
- Experience leading auxiliary system work efforts for Government or commercial shipbuilding programs strongly preferred.
- Experience providing mentorship to junior engineers.
- Knowledge of ABS USN and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
