POSITION: School Nutrition Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of School Nutrition
SALARY: NC State Salary Schedule
Description: An employee in this position oversees the operation of the school nutrition services. Leadresponsibilities include:opening and closing the facility;monitoring and maintaining accurate records;assigning and supervising work; and ordering food items. Work follows established written procedures andguidelines and is subject to review and monitored by the School Nutrition Supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Supervises food production and preparation assigns and monitors work of employees closes outdaily money and reports and completes monthly reports
- Assures that there is adequate staff for the meal preparation tasks assigned
- Coordinates and works with school staff on any special needs of the school nutrition staff for thatday; handles special requests
- Counts and records inventory monthly
- Develops a productive relationship with school administration and staff
- Performs related duties as assigned
Secondary Duties:
- Substitutes for other staff
- Prepares and handles food in preparation for meal services for the school staff and children;includes such examples as panning food and preparing sandwiches salad meats and vegetables
- Unloads food carriers and assists with storing food materials and supplies
- Pulls inventory items to be used in food preparation
- Sets up serving line or cashier line depending on specific days job assignment
- Handles recycled items and takes out trash
- Counts and records leftovers does inventory counts
- Completes cash reconciliations counts and receives monies and collects prepaid money
Knowledge Skills and abilities
Working knowledge of:
- Total food preparation and operation cycle in kitchen
- Food handling and preparation
- Methods and techniques for maintaining and completing school nutrition reports and records suchas inventory purchasing food ordering and similar functions
Ability to:
- Assign evaluate and monitor the work of other employees
- Count and compute numbers and figures
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Communicate effectively in oral and written methods
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with children school staff supervisors andothers.
- Perform basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Physically perform basic operational functions such as: stooping kneeling crouching reachingstanding pushing pulling lifting grasping and repetitive motion
- Must process the visual acuity to operate kitchen equipment and determine the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
Education training and certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Food Service experience including five years experience working in school nutrition preferred.
- ServSafe or Safe Plates certification required or must complete within 90 days of employment
