About the role
Relationships Australia Queensland is seeking a compassionate and skilled Trauma (Redress Support Service) Counsellor for a full-time fixed-term contract position until June 2026 based at our Ipswich venue. This critical role involves providing trauma-informed counselling and practical support to individuals who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse and are engaging with the National Redress Scheme. In this vital role you will offer compassionate evidence-based support manage complex caseloads and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to empower survivors on their journey toward healing and justice.
This work is both challenging and profoundly important requiring a deep commitment to supporting survivors of trauma. At Relationships Australia Queensland we are dedicated to supporting our people through access to supervision professional development and a caring workplace culture.
Additionally you will:
Conduct thorough client assessment and intake processes including risk and needs assessment to provide relevant information and determine appropriate interventions or referral pathways.
Deliver trauma-based counselling and/or crisis interventions linked to applications to the National Redress Scheme.
Apply theoretical knowledge of trauma and crisis interventions considering the impact of trauma and coping strategies for each client.
Identify assess and plan for client support needs using a case management approach including preparing applications for the National Redress Scheme.
Develop implement and monitor case plans to inform and measure the impact of counselling and crisis interventions.
Identify and coordinate client access to a range of appropriate services.
Employ a collaborative case management approach with internal and external stakeholders to ensure interventions are appropriate to client needs.
Maintain confidentiality and duty of care including assessment of domestic and family violence child safety and risk of harm to self or others and take appropriate action as required.
Understand and meet legislative and funding requirements including timely and accurate collection and recording of statistical data.
About you
You are a compassionate and highly skilled professional with a proven background in managing complex cases and delivering crisis and trauma counselling across a range of settings. Your experience encompasses work with individuals couples children young people families and groups and you are adept at supporting clients from diverse backgrounds. With strong theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply a case management approach you are committed to continuous learning and upholding the highest standards of care and compliance.
Additionally you have:
Relevant Undergraduate Qualification in Social or Behavioural Science. Demonstrated experience in managing complex cases.
Demonstrated experience in crisis and trauma counselling in a variety of settings for example individuals couples children young people families and groups.
Theoretical knowledge of crisis and trauma counselling clients in a variety of settings.
Demonstrated use of or the capacity to quickly acquire a working knowledge of current legislation and regulations relating to victims of crime.
Knowledge of and ability to apply a case management approach in supporting clients.
