Job Description:
This position will be responsible for scientific leadership in performing complex technical work involved in all aspects of Electron Microscopy. This role will be responsible for the performance of wide variety of duties in the laboratory including surveying platelets using the electron microscope to determine the mean number of platelet dense granules used to diagnose platelet storage pool deficiency survey of renal biopsies and other tissue samples to assess abnormal morphology at the ultrastructural level ( e.g. assessing fat pad biopsies for amyloid deposition) and preparation of specimens for diagnosis and treatment of disease teaching and research. This role will operate and maintain electron microscopes and auxiliary equipment. This role will coordinate the activities of the Electron Microscopy facility such as preparation for accreditation inspections quality control and quality improvement initiatives. Responsible for providing consultation and assisting faculty postdoctoral researchers staff and collaborators in advanced microscopy techniques and methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience/licensure
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in biology chemistry physics or engineering is required. Masters degree or PhD is preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of scientific laboratory or chemistry coursework.
Ability to work with biological samples is required.
2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
3 to 5 years of autonomous decision-making experience in the interpretation of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images for a variety of biological and medical specimens is required. .
Must possess exemplary organizational skills and have a proven track record of working effectively both independently and as a team player.
