Organization Overview: Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Franciscos Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of after-school support services that serve over 4800 children youth and families each year. Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families rather than the exception.
Program Summary: MHS College and Career Center (MHCC) is a student-centered college access and persistence program based at Mission High School. It is focused on getting students to and through college and encourages all students to realize their full potential for college completion.
Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties
Program Coordination (40%)
Coordinate college persistence programming with the support of the MHS College Success Manager.
Deep knowledge of the nature of the achievement gap in San Francisco and approaches designed for students experiencing that gap.
Assist the Program Manager in identifying MHS community needs establishing program priorities and implementing the plans to address these needs and priorities.
Contribute to the development of college access programming and content including: transcript reviews and educational plans college admissions process personal statement development financial aid college applications and scholarship applications and resources.
Assist the Program Manager in implementing program evaluations and utilizing evaluation findings in program development to ensure positive outcomes.
Assist Program Manager in the maintenance of all program records including participant files and program curriculum.
Assist in the preparation of data for funding proposals and reports in regard to college persistence.
Provide academic and college counseling to students in grades 9-12 in collaboration with the college team at MHS.
Provide individual college counseling to students and their parents regarding college exploration college applications financial aid and admissions decisions.
Research identify and maintain contact with appropriate summer programs college scholarships and community partners.
Be embedded in college and career classes to provide college access and socio-emotional support to students throughout the academic school year.
Collaborate with developing and facilitating curriculum workshops and other resources to support college access and readiness summer programs with the College to Career Department.
Serve as a positive role model for high school students.
Communication and Collaboration with CBOs and Community Partners; Including Parents & SFUSD (15%)
Coordinate with the school staff and CBOs focusing on College Access and Success to ensure that all MHS students consider college after high school.
Build and strengthen relationships with Mission High School staff faculty students parents and community partners.
Assist in outreach to youth and families including creating all relevant marketing materials.
Assist with parent engagement activities and maintain positive parent relations.
Manage social media platforms to promote programming resources and events.
Required Qualifications
1-2 years of experience working with diverse youth in both community and public school settings with a focus on college access programming.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning curriculum development methods of teaching and evaluation.
Demonstrated effectiveness in program development and implementation.
Advanced knowledge of the college application process and financial aid system.
Familiarity with college access challenges that are specific to first-generation college students.
Familiarity and experience working in or with schools and with community-based organizations.
Familiarity and experience working with undocumented youth.
Bilingual Spanish/English fluency required.
BA or BS required.
$24 - $26 an hour
Benefits Package: Includes fully paid Medical Dental and Vision for the employee; access to Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits as well as access to 403(b) account at the time of hire. We also offer an employer contribution for eligible staff* (eligibility to be explained at the time of hire). In addition we offer 13 paid holidays per year as well as 8 personal hours per year and accrue PTO (vacation and sick).
